New Son Rising: Closing of Alpha: Genesis of a Dream
Khalid-El Hakim is celebrating the closing and realization of a dream. The images of this collection are just the beginning and introduction of one Detroit’s most celebrated heralds.
July 21, 2009
Detroit, Mich.
On Sunday, August 9th 2009 from 3p.m.-8p.m., Khalid El-Hakim will celebrate the closing of his first photography exhibition at The Artist Village-Detroit. Khalid El-Hakim has managed several hip-hop luminaries, also founded, and curates the Black History 101 Mobile Museum. His latest venture is one that is profoundly personal and encapsulates all of his passions. As a photographer, Khalid El-Hakim is contributing to the metro-area art scene with his current collection of photos on display at the Artist Village-Detroit.
Alpha: Genesis of Dream is a collection of twenty-five photographs of Detroit, nature, spirituality, and hip-hop. In essence: visual memoirs of the artist’s soul. Images of popular Detroit landmarks, icons such as Jessica “Care” Moore, members of Public Enemy, visual chronicles of his travels and sacred fellowship with images of the Muslim faith have been on display since the show’s debut July 9, 2009. The exhibit also displays rare artifacts of the late Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5 from the Black History 101 Mobile Museum.
The exhibit’s closing reception will immortalize Khalid’s passion for not only hip-hop culture but also his continued support of Detroit and the artists and citizens that call her home. The show has something to offer all patrons: Nature, hip-hop, spirituality, and Detroit landscape. Art aficionado and famed entertainment attorney, G.J. Reed Esq. contends, “The photo exhibit displays the work of a master.”
Laylah Barrayn a Brooklyn photographer and inspiration to Khalid had this to say, “…Khalid's love for nature, his hometown of Detroit, spirituality and hip hop is evident in his spirited images. He's picked up the camera out of love, compassion, and responsibility.”
Khalid is fueling his passion for photography sharing his work in one of Detroit’s most celebrated artistic hubs in the metro area, the Artist Village. Celebrate the rising of a son and contribution to Detroit culture.

I want to be one of those women who men write
great love songs about…I want to be the subject of
their praise.
I want to be his latest and greatest
inspiration that lifts him to his
highest height.
Don’t get me wrong, I know love takes time
and the work must put in.
However, when a man loves a woman
what he wouldn’t give and no
dream is ever to big for him.
I want him to use my hips to anchor
his passion and my thighs as pillows
and my heart as a beacon.
Can he hear me? Can he feel me?
Does he know that I want to be his
midnight meditation and love supreme?
I want just want to be his little woman and lover.
Does he realize that I all I want to do is love him?
great love songs about… I just want to be loved.
